Dr Ip received his qualifications in Medical Science and Medicine at the University of Sydney and undertook his specialist general surgical training at Royal North Shore Hospital. Dr Ip subsequently attained Fellowship in General Surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS). He consequently pursued post-Fellowship training with the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ), receiving further sub-specialist training over two years at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney and Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth.
Dr Ip has a particular interest in advanced surgical techniques such as laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for conditions of the small and large intestine including colorectal cancer, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis) and diverticular disease. He is also experienced in managing conditions of the rectum and anus such as constipation and diarrhoea, prolapse, haemorrhoids, anal fissure and anal fistula.
During his surgical training, Dr Ip undertook further studies for a higher-degree and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy by the University of Sydney for his thesis on translational cancer research. Dr Ip maintains his academic interests as a Clinical Lecturer with the University of Sydney and is involved with teaching at undergraduate and post-graduate levels. He has published over twenty clinical and translational science research papers.
Dr Ip is a member of the Section of Colon and Rectal Surgery and Section of Academic Surgery of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and is a member of the University of Sydney Cancer Research Network.
Dr Ip consults at the Northern Beaches Hospital and operates out of the Sydney Adventist Hospital, Northern Beaches Hospital, Dee Why Endoscopy Unit and Hornsby Hospital.
During his spare time, Julian enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. His other pursuits include kayaking, golf and photography.
